About me
I was graduated from Yale University in 1963 with a B.A. in economics and from the University of Virginia School of law, where I was the notes editor of the Virginia Law Review, in 1966. Following four years of active duty with the Army JAG Corps, with two tours in Korea, I entered private practice in Washington, D.C. specializing in communications law. I retired in 1996 to sail with my wife, Jeanie, on our sailboat Namaste to and in the Caribbean. In 2002, we settled in the Republic of Panama and live in a very rural area up in the mountains.
I now contribute to China Daily Mail and Opinion Forum. I have contributed to Pajamas Media and Pajamas Tatler.

GOP Re-brands as the New Coke
Here is an excellent YouTube video by Bill Whittle of PJTV Afterburner. Mr. Whittle makes quite valid points and we — as well as the Grand Obsolete Party (GOP) — should take them (and him) seriously. Will the GOP do … Continue reading

Freedom can be Taken. When Inherited or otherwise Given, does it Last?
If taken at great cost, it often lasts for quite a while. If inherited, not that long. If given, it is even more readily perishable. The United States gained their freedom, by force and at great cost, from those who used … Continue reading

The Government’s in the Very Best of Paws.

The Libruls are Winning. How Can We Win Instead?

Having Tested One Nuclear Device this Month, What Might North Korea Do for an Encore?
More tests, probably, in partnership with Iran. Meanwhile, the U.S. and her allies want to limit North Korea’s access to gold while increasing Iran’s access, making them even happier sellers and buyers. On January 30th, I posted an article on … Continue reading

Thoughts on the Anniversary of General Robert E. Lee’s Birth
This is a “revised and extended” re-post of an article I wrote in 2011 to mark an anniversary of General Lee’s death. It celebrates the two hundred and sixth anniversary of his birth on January 19, 1807, a happier occasion. … Continue reading

Cult of Personality: Who comes to mind?
North Korea, Venezuela and other countries have them. Instead of freedom they provide a benevolent hero to worship. The leader of a cult of personality has real power in his own right and/or is a front for others, some of whom … Continue reading

Happy New Year!
2012 was a grim year. There have been many others. May 2013 and all following years be far better! It’s pretty much up to us. There have been reasons for sadness. If we are to survive as a constitutional republic, … Continue reading
Taking Advantage of the Newtown Massacre
The spotlight brings glory, even posthumously. Glory is politically useful. There have been more “news” reports than there has been substantive, confirmed news about the Newtown, Connecticut massacre. That’s to be expected. At some level horror is relished — even … Continue reading
